You've probably stumbled here trying to find out what we are really all about. We will do our best to try and show you. Better and far more eloquent people have tried to define it and only scratched the surface. The truth is that it will take quite a while for you to really understand what it is and where you may fit in.
The reason it is so difficult to define is that it is an entire community. Ranging from a way of life, to those just beginning the journey. What seems to bring us all together is a mutual respect for the beauty that we present to the world. Whether you are a maker, or someone who enjoys what is made, you are a part. Werther you post to the forums and present your ideas for the world to see, or whether you simply sit back and read. Taking in the bits and pieces you enjoy and spreading the beauty to others. You are a part. Whether you dress up at conventions or just stare in awe at those who enjoy dressing up. You are all a part. We are the inventors, the philosopher. Even more simply put, the people who DO. We have this overwhelming desire to make the world a better place. Another way is to think that instead of pretending the future is a different place, we are doing our utmost to make it a better vision of the things in the past we find beauty in.
It took me several months to realize that Steampunk simply is.
You'll get a chance to read more about what Steampunk is in the forums here. But please do visit the well established forums like brass goggles, steampunk workshop, steampunk magazine, or a dozen others you will stumble across.
Don't feel daunted at the task. Have fun learning about what we are and what we do. Find out what part of this you want to participate in, and then jump in with both feet. Rudeness is not tolerated, we will have our disagreements, as any real community does, but we will discuss these civilly.
We're primarily here to get the DFW Steampunk community together. But even if you are not in the area, feel free to participate. There is nothing we encourage more.
Steampunk Illumination Society - A Non-Profit Organization founded in 2010.
We meet every two weeks at various locations across the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. We meet every other Sunday (sometimes Saturday) and every other Thursday. To understand our schedule best, you'd have to peek at the calendar of meetings.
We invite all, who are interested, to attend a meeting as a guest. If you like what you see, we encourage you to sign up as a member of our society. We are growing quite quickly, and very excited about what we have created as an active society. We are family friendly, and open to ALL ages. We keep our meeting locations family friendly as well.
Membership is free. If you'd like to fill out a MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION, you can click the link, print out the form, fill it out, & bring it with you to our next scheduled meeting. We look forward to meeting you!
